Jack, Boulevards and Jack

with one comment

Tonight my family and I celebrated my grandma’s birthday by going out to dinner.  She was in the mood for anything non-Asian and not too greasy/heavy.  My parents yelped “American food” and eventually chose to go to: Jack’s Restaurant & Bar (San Bruno)

I had very low expectations for dinner tonight as I do not always trust the ratings that Yelp gives.  I actually overheard my parents talking about some restaurant named Jack’s before we went out, so I yelped “Jack’s in San Mateo” and thought we were going to “Jack’s Prime” (which I’ll talk about later).  But to my surprise, the restaurant we ended up going to (Jack’s Restaurant and Bar), a  fairly new restaurant (2 weeks old) that is run by a Bay Area family, blew me away.  The ambience was a classic and sleak, the waiters were especially nice and the food was amazing and good-portioned (and when I saw good portioned I mean large!).  And even better, the price was decent ($12-15).  The early bird specials (5-6:30 pm) even came soup or salad plus a drink with your entree for $12 (Oh what a deal!).   We ended up getting the fried chicken, fish and chips, catfish and chicken piccata.  Yum yums.

The waiter also mentioned that the family that ran this restaurant also owned another restaurant: Boulevard Cafe.

…which apparently has the best fish and chips in the Bay Area.  I’m definitely going to try this place out.  The breakfast menu looks pretty darn UHHHmazing too.

But getting back to my misunderstanding of where we were going tonight for dinner, I thought we were going to a place called “Jack’s Prime”:

After looking at their menu on their website and some of the pictures on Yelp, I really want a burger and sweet potato fries real bad.  This is another food joint that I’m going to try.

And to think that just a few weeks ago, I had no idea where to bring my Socal friends for dinner at a good old Bay Area exclusive.  Now I have three!!  Guess y’all better come back up here soon…

UPDATE: this is the 150th post on this blog! how momentous.

So I thought it might be time to graduate from xanga and move on to something a little more grown-up.  And so this came to be.
The name of this blog is “wading in the water,” which references the element of water, a quite amazing compound.   Water can freeze and turn into solid ice or melt and become liquid or even evaporate and turn into a gaseous state.  It makes up oceans and lakes and pools.  It covers 70% of this earth that we live on.  We play in water.  We swim in the water.  We float on water.  We drink water.  We can even wade in the water.  We are made up of water.  We need water to live.  Water is essential.
But that’s not the only kind of water that we need.  There is the living water.  ”Whaaa?” you say, “the compound water is not alive!”  Of course it’s not alive, silly.  But I’m talking about Jesus Christ: the source of the living water.  In the gospel of John in chapter 4 of the B-I-B-L-E, Jesus is talking to a Samaritan woman in Samaria at a water well (how appropriate).  Knowing that she needs Him and needs forgiveness for her sins, Jesus tells her about the “gift of God” (v 10) (aka salvation and eternal life) and  the “living water.”   When Jesus said “living water,” He was referring to the Holy Spirit who dwells in all those who believe in Jesus Christ.  Jesus was telling the Samaritan woman to put her faith in Him, receive the Holy Spirit (the Living water), and never thirst again.  Jesus was offering forgiveness of her iniquities and offering eternal salvation from death.  Jesus was offering a personal relationship with God!
You see, we are like that Samaritan woman, in that you, me and her all need Jesus.  We go around in life, going to our “watering wells” trying to satisfy ourselves with plain “water.”  But all we need is Jesus, the ultimate thirst quencher.  We will “never be thirsty again.”
And so I put ” water” as part of the title of this blog because it not only exemplifies my love for and amazement of the compound of water, but also it reminds me of my dependence on God, the wellspring of the Living Water who can satisfy all of my and your thirst (physically and spiritually).  And that’s one of the most important perspectives we should have in this life: remembering how in need we are of Christ.
So if “water” is symbolic of my dependence Jesus and/or my relationship with God, I want to be always in Him…waiting on His plan for my life, taking refuge in Him and His promises.  I am wading in the water.  wading in the water…
On this blog, I hope to post my nonsensical thoughts, cool links to music, funny youtube videos, to even pictures of food…all reflecting my life in which i try to live.
But whatever I do, I hope that I’m always wading in the water…

I thought it might be time to graduate from xanga and move on to something a little more grown-up.  And so this blog came to be.

A little bit about music, food, random thoughts and God’s faithfulness every day, this blog encompasses life, at all different depths. So don’t be afraid to jump right in, take a read and dive with me in exploring life…
